Sweater Leg warmers – tutorial

Remember my sweater pillows? I said to keep the extra pieces for other projects….here is one of those projects!
Supplies:
Sweater (I used a heavy cable knit one)
Scissors or rotary cutter/ruler/mat
sewing machine
Buttons (optional)
sewing needle and thread (optional)
Step 1: Lay out your sweater flat and cut off the arms of the sweater as close to the shoulder hem as you can.
Step 2: Fold over the top raw edge about 1/2″ and pin. Then sew to create a finished top edge.
Step 3: optional – Handsew buttons down the length of 1 side.
Step 4: Slip on over your boots or skinny jeans and fold under the top edge as needed or desired!

If you create some - please share a picture!
I will be linking up here

what I learned: Cable knit sweaters don’t “give much or have much elasticity. It’s better to choose a sweater that has some give to it.

  20. Oh I this post just made me smile SO much. I am fifty years old and leg warmers fist came in when I was about 14 years old! I remember I couldn’t afford such high fashion and I couldn’t knit either so I cut the arms off one of my mums sweaters to do just this! I wore them to Windsor Castle on a first date with a lad and rode on the back of his motorcycle! I thought I was the bees knees in them and my best friend still teases me to this day about them. Perhaps I should send her a link to your blog!!!

And you know? I just made a sweater cushion from a lovely dusky pink cable sweater…and I still have the sleeves! Right I’m off to the sewing room! Do you think I’m too old for leg warmers??

  21. I am loving this trend!! Perfect!! I would love for you to come share at our link party…junkintheirtrunk.blogspot.com/2011/11/link-it-up-wednesday_08.html
