Tweet up/Meet up

The fun thing about living in Utah is there is LOTS of ladies who blog and run their own businesses. I have connected with several through Twitter and at a different events. After so many events always being held "south" of where I live I put it out there on Twitter that we needed a "meet up" event for all of us "northern" utah gals. And that's all it took. After collaborating with Paige from Where Women Create we tweeted and invited several ladies to join us for lunch and a tour of the Where Women Create office. (insert my giddy-ness here)

It was a very fun group of talented and creative ladies.
Here's the run down - from front to back

I have so many pictures I could share but I will spare you most ;)

The tour of the Where Women Create office was fabulous. There are so many fun things to see and look through. A feast for the camera!

Even left with a little swag bag! Thank you again Jo and Paige

And I'm all for meeting up again! would love to meet those that couldn't make it....

My Photo Friday.....catching air

(Each Friday I share a photo(s) I have taken during the week or recently. I enjoy taking pictures for fun and capturing what I see through the lens when inspired to do so. The photos can be business or family related, from my personal life or just from the everyday. Enjoy My Photo Friday)

Yup. That is me and my daughter taking a little bit of time on Presidents day for play. Catching some air. LOL....

The Luck of the Irish....

I think it's hard to find and decorate for St. Patrick's day in a style that fits mine. If I even decorate at all! But adding a splash of green into the dull-drums of winter is a good thing! Maybe it will help Spring come faster.

How do you decorate for St. Patrick's day?

I created these pillows last year for the holiday. A fun play on "decorating" for the holiday in a style that was mine and having a bit of fun at the same time.

You can make some too with my tutorial OR download the free ebook over all All Sewing.com!

Get ready for Spring

The Brassy Apple Shop has been restocked with scarves

After many requests for more scarves, I am adding some fun colors for Spring! 1 thing I love about the Bunchy Scarves is they are great for year round wear! Not sure if I will restock again until the fall so think ahead for Mother's Day, birthday gifts, etc.

There are bunchies, double bunchies and even a few double EXTRA bunchies! PLUS some of the flower brooches are on SALE!!!

Projects and Procrastination

It's funny how events in our lives can finally get us do something we have been putting off and putting off.

I bought these 2 pillows from the $1 store weeks ago. I knew I wanted to recover them and add to them THIS chair

I had the fabric. I just didn't TAKE the time and then my sewing machine broke.

BUT like I said, events come into our lives and it gives a kick start or a kick in the behind (wink) and this project got completed.
Just a quick cover but they add so much to this piece.

What have you been working on lately?

My Photo Friday.....encouraging

(Each Friday I share a photo(s) I have taken during the week or recently. I enjoy taking pictures for fun and capturing what I see through the lens when inspired to do so. The photos can be business or family related, from my personal life or just from the everyday. Enjoy My Photo Friday)

I think every house needs a chalkboard. We absolutely LOVE ours! This one sits in the middle of our framed gallery wall in the kitchen/dining area - aka Grand Central Station. It gets changed daily and my kids will call me out on it if there isn't something new each day ;)

It welcomes guests, counts down to holidays, gives inspiration, holds messages, etc. My 6 yr. old was having a tough time with not "being perfect" on his school work so I tried to get him to embrace learning new things and that's it's OK to make mistakes. He sort of half smiled, half rolled his eyes when we read the chalkboard that next morning.

Sweater Pillows - challenge/contest/pay it forward!

Ever do things on a whim thinking NOTHING will ever come it! That's exactly what happened to me!

A local TV show (Studio 5) announced there were having a $5.00 craft challenge. I think there was 5 days to submit your entries, then the staff was going to pick their top 5 favorites. So with 1 day left to enter I submitted some recent past projects and honestly sort of forgot all about it.

Fast forward a week later. I get a call from the TV show saying I have been chosen as 1 of the top 5 projects and get to come on the show and demonstrate how to create my project. SAY WHAT???? If you read my blog then you know Studio 5 has had me on before. But what I was really surprised about was first, making the cut (thank you!) and second, the winner is selected by online votes (insert a little "booooo" from me). Online voting isn't my favorite thing. I feel like it's a popularity contest of who can spam their facebook, twitter and blog friends the most to get them to vote for their project to win.

SO - I am not asking you to vote for my project but simply take a look over the 5 projects and if you happen to like mine (sweater pillows) , give it a vote :) -voting poll box in the upper right. What is it that they say??......"It's an honor just to nominated." and truly it is.

(pssst! you may be thinking "She doesn't need to win." -  But I would love to pay it forward to benefit a local youth or children's group)

Here is my segment from the Show!

Don't you love this? Not only is it a great color - especially in the middle of winter - but the striped handle bars and polka dot seat (be still my heart!) are fabulous! I love creative displays outside stores that hook you into coming in. This beauty was spotted outside this shop.

Have a great weekend! don't miss my post on MONDAY! :)

Warm my heart......tutorial

Last year we ran with this idea to hand out for Valentine's day and it was a HUGE hit! Not sure it will ever be topped!

BUT I did come up with a non-sweet and functional gift as an alternative this year. Maybe it will "warm your heart" enough to give it try. I think it's a great alternative for friends, neighbors, teachers, etc.

Warm My Heart
(It's basically THESE but smaller and heart shaped)

Materials:
Fabric
Sewing Machine
Thread
Scissors/Pinking Shears
Rice (not instant)
Ribbon
Straight pins
Type up Poem or create your own!

Step 1: Create a paper template if desired. I cut out a heart that was 4 1/2" high and 5" across at it's widest. Fold the fabric, place your pattern on, pin and cut out 2 at a time using pinking shears (1st photo). OR place the pattern over the fold, pin and cut (2nd photo). Cut 1 heart for the back and 1 for the front.

Place the heart's with right sides facing out (wrong sides together). Cut a 1" piece of ribbon, fold in half and slip between the 2 layers. Pin.
Sew around the edges leaving a 2-4" opening along 1 of the straight sides.
Fill with rice about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way full. (see 2nd photo)

Sew the opening closed. Attach the poem by threading it through the ribbon loop and gift to someone you love!
