DIY necklace makeover

This is a quick, easy tutorial ANYONE can do!

Supplies:
necklace
spray paint
something to hang your necklace from - I used an old hanger

I have had this Silver necklace for a few years now. It was in my grandma's things and when she died some of her accessories were handed out. I don't think she ever wore this - I just think she had it. I think I have worn it once but just couldn't seem to get rid of it. SO - I decided to transform it into something I would wear more often it was going to stay in my stash of accessories.

(necklace before)

I simply hung the necklace from an extra wire hanger outside so I could transform it with spray paint. I chose a glossy white because I have been wanting a white accessory for two.

Hanging like this gave me access to all sides and surfaces of the necklace at once as opposed to laying it flat and trying to hit all the angles.

I applied 1 coat and let it dry and finished up with a second coat. The trick is to do light coats. If you spray it heavily the chain will get stiff and not lay or look well.

Once it was dry it was ready to wear!

I love how it turned out! It's simple and easy yet now it's a piece I find myself wearing more often!
If you give this a try - let me know!!

  1. Hey I tried painting my chain necklace once but the chains lost their form (became very hard and rigid) after spraying that they became useless..how to avoid that?

    1. thanks for the reminder! I meant to put that as a tip! You just have to use light coats of the spray paint and not apply the paint to heavily
