What I wore - 1 fashion secret from me!

This may seem like a silly thing to share BUT it's got to make a difference to someone out there!
It's one of my fashion secrets because well.....I don't tell people I do this so it's a secret! (lol)

Please tell me I'm not the only one that deals with a pair of pants or jeans that buttons at the top and part of that buttoned piece for some reason or the other just sticks out!? Do you know what I"m talking about?

Just like this right? And when you wear a top over it it makes it poke out.

I think one of the last areas we want to draw attention to is there and heaven forbid we look like we have an "out-y" belly button when we DON'T! :)

So here's my secret/solution that I use when my jeans "stick out" and I want to smooth it over: MASKING TAPE!

I take a tiny piece of masking tape and TAPE down the curled piece that is sticking out.

Now my tshirt, blouse or any top can have a smooth look!

Hopefully this helps someone out there!

Christmas Oranges - new MOVIE!

Do you have the tradition of getting an orange at Christmas time? We always did and I have to say I did look forward to it. It's the perfect fit for the toe of the stocking right? (ha ha ha)

There is a new movie coming out called Christmas Oranges. It's a GREAT family flick if you are looking for something that the whole family can watch but that also has some meaning and substance.
It's based on the book Christmas Oranges and here's trailer to give you a sneak peek:

We watched Christmas Oranges as a family and it was something that all my kids enjoyed. I of course cried at many different parts and also laughed and enjoyed the different messages the movie holds.

I think it's a wonderful film to kick off the Holiday season of giving and gratitude. They have a limited theatrical run of this movie starting Friday, November 2nd at the following Utah movie theaters:

1.       Megaplex 17 @ Jordan Commons
2.       Megaplex 20 @ the District
3.       Megaplex 14 @ Legacy Crossing (Centerville)
4.       Thanksgiving Point
5.       Megaplex 13 @ the Junction (Ogden)
6.       Movies 5 (Logan)
7.       Fiddler 6 (Cedar City)
8.       Pine View 6 (St. George)
My kids, "It was cool."
"I liked it."
"I like how Rose was brave."

A few of the recurring themes that I noticed were being grateful for what you have, making the best of your situation, forgiveness, and to cherish the people in your life now. Like I said, a movie with substance. I really did love and enjoy the show and highly recommend it for the coming season!

DIY cuff bracelet - styled by tori

You can easily create some unique and eye catching accessories with a few simple materials and steps!

Supplies:
metal cuff bracelet (I got a gold and a silver from Michaels for $3.00 each)
embellishments (I used a pendant and some danglers from the Styled by Tori line)
thin wire
wire clippers

Step 1: Choose your embellishment. If using a pendant check or loops to attach to the bracelet.

Step 2: Thread some wire through a loop on the back and then through an opening on the bracelet. Position it in the top middle of the bracelet or where you'd like it. Repeat on the other side and secure in place.

DONE!
If you are working with danglers or earrings place the 2 ends of danglers in the middle and close together and attach at the center and the end.

And because you know I love a versatile piece, the wire can easily be clipped and changed out to showcase some other fun pendants and pieces you have!

(psst! If you are looking for some fun pieces I recommend the Styled by Tori line. There is a great diversity of styles and colors)

Refashion top tutorial - stenciled

Any plain top can have a "fun" factor but simply adding a stencil to it.
Ready to start!?

Supplies:
Top to be stenciled on
Paint
Fabric Medium (to add into your paint so the paint is washable)
Brush
Stencil (I used one from the Martha Stewart line)
cardboard
iron

Step 1: Lay out your top and place the cardboard in between the layers so the paint doesn't seep through one side of the top to the other.

Step 2: Place your stencil in the top/middle of your shirt. Smooth out the fabric and use tape to keep the stencil in place if necessary. (I was originally just going to do a straight row down the middle but then I decided to offset them. Pick a design layout you like!)

Step 3: Mix in the fabric medium to your paint as directed on the bottle from the manufacturer.

Step 4: Dip your brush into the paint - pounce off the extras - and start stenciling! Move your stencil down the middle of the shirt when you finish. Repeat until you reach the bottom hem.

Step 5: Let dry and heat set according to the manufacturers directions on the fabric medium bottle.

WEAR it!

New project & TV

Happy Weekend! I just wanted to share a few tidbits of news with some of my favorite people - YOU!

Starting on Sunday, Oct 21st I am kicking off a year long photo project with 6 other women worldwide! Some of my long time readers will remember my I AM blog. After taking some time away from it I've felt compelled to start snapping photos and sharing again in this new way!

Each week will have a theme and each day of the week 1 of the women will share a photo from their life that relates to the weekly theme. You can find out more about each of the 7 women involved and where in the world they are located here.
I hope you join us in this year long photo journey of sharing, exploring and connecting.

In other news...I will be on the Mormon Times TV show on Sunday morning (10am channel 5 for local viewers).

My participation in the "Why are some of my favorite bloggers Mormon?" project sparked the interest of this show and a few of us were able to be interviewed. For those not in the viewing area or who are but may have missed it, I believe I will be able to post a clip after it's aired.

Have a great rest of the weekend! The Make it Monday link up party will go live on Sunday night! come on back and show off your latest DIY project  from crafting, sewing, refashion, decorating, cooking and more!

DIY Clustered Brooch

OH accessories......you know I love them!
I have several pendants that can be hooked on necklaces or attached to my handbags, etc (versatility - the other thing I love!).

I have a fun mix of pendants from the Styled by Tori line and many I have thought would make GREAT brooches!

Did you know that clustering brooches together is a new trend? and I totally LOVE IT! I think I love it because it allows me to wear more than one "pretty" piece at a time...wink. I love that you can mix the styles and colors and be eclectic, classic, blingy, etc. Whatever compliments your outfit! There's a great segment on it by Mindy from Studio 5 if you want to see more!

SO - I picked out some pendants, snatched some small safety pins and I created the same look without using brooches at all! Here's how I did it.

I picked out 3 pendants that complimented my outfit. Remember when you are clustering, work in odd numbers - 1, 3, 5, and so on...

I placed them on my sweater jacket in an arrangement I liked, then I started pinning. Because they are pendants meant for necklaces they (1 & 2) have loops on the top or underside. This is where I attached the safety pins through. I used the smallest safety pins I had because it gave the pendant less "surface room" to slide around on. It helped it stay in place. Then I (3) continued to layer the pendants nestling them close together and/or slightly underneath each other.

That's IT! and when I'm done wearing it they become pendants again! (love that....)
So take another look at what's in your jewelry box and see the possibilities that are there! Or pick up a few fun new pieces that could be used.
