The military jacket has been a wardrobe staple for the last few years. With vests making a big come back this year, it only makes sense to see the 'military' or utility vest pop up as a big trend this Fall. Vests are a great way to layer and add style to almost any outfit this season. Utility or cargo vests are an easy neutral color and can really go with anything.
Always the DIYer, I decided to make my own utility vest and save money for other wardrobe essentials. You can do the same by following this easy tutorial.
Now once you have your very own vest, how to do wear it? I'm ready to help you out with three easy options.
1. Utility Vest + Chambray Shirt + Boots
It doesn't get more basic than this. Combine all of your wardrobe essentials into one perfect outfit. You can button the chambray shirt or leave it open. I like to roll the sleeves and leave the collar of the chambray shirt under the collar of the vest- don't pop them both. Feel free to try another colored jean like oxblood or mustard. Also try changing up the boot with a black riding boot or even an ankle boot.
2. Utility Vest + Camo
Yes, this is taking the military theme to an extreme, but camo is huge this Fall and I don't mind pairing the utility vest with one piece of camouflage This camo tee works well, but you could try some camo pants, ballet flats, or maybe even leggings.
3. Utility Vest + Stripes + Leopard
Pattern mixing is huge right now and I love wear it by pairing leopard and stripes. This outfit would work fine without the vest, but the vest takes it to another level. It adds an extra layer of interest and style to more of your basics.
And last, you can use your vest to balance out a pair of printed pants. Printed pants like these are very busy and really draw your eye down to the lower half of the body. If you add a vest then it balances the interest and your outfit as a whole. Also you might feel like you can only wear a plain top with such busy pants, but throwing on a vest gives you another outfit option.
