DIY infinity scarf - sweater refashion

Today is another NO SEW sweater refashion project! And it just takes a few snips!

You will need:
A sweater & scissors

Here's the sweater looked life before....
Now let's refashion!
Lay your sweater flat and cut right under where the sleeves start.

Run your fingers along the cut edge to strip away any loose fibers. Fold the scarf in half or in thirds (with both ends folded toward the center)

Now it's ready to wear! A stylish way to add texture, volume and possibly color to your outfit. It's great worn alone or with a coat!

I love to take it a step further and add some sparkle to it! Make a cluster of brooches using this technique with the Styled by Tori pendants

Photo a day project - I AM more than just

Have your checked out my other project? The IamMOREthanjust.com is a photo a day site from 7 different women from all different parts of the world. We each share a photo during the week set on a certain theme. We are taking a year long journey together (that started back on October of  2012) one photo at a time. We are seeing our differences, our similarities and sharing little pieces of us along the way.

We come from all different backgrounds, some are single, some are married, some have kids, some work in the home, outside the home, different interests, cultures and religious beliefs. Yet we are all united in this purpose to share, connect and attempt to show who we are through our photos. We are MORE than what we are on the outside - everyone has a story to tell......come join our photo journey.....

This week the theme is FRIENDS and next week the theme is CHALLENGE!

DIY headwrap or earwamers - Sweater Refashion

Today's tutorial is a NO SEW for all those who like to create and refashion but maybe not sew!

You'll need a sweater with a turtle neck style collar, some scissors and some bling (optional)

Cut off the turtle neck part of the sweater.

if the sweater weave is tight enough that it doesn't fray or seem to loose then you can leave the edge as it is. If it's not, fold over the edge, pin and handstitch or use your sewing machine to finish the edge.

Fold it in half to wear.

Bling it up!!! Take some pendants, brooches or other accessories - I love the Styled by Tori line because of it's versatility. If using a brooch(es) simply pin to the headwrap and wear. If using pendants, I like to use safety pins to attach the jewelry (because then the jewelry can be used for other things during other seasons). You can also attach a pin back to the pendants if you want a more permanent solution.

Easy sweater refashion!!! Think of all the fun colors and patterns you could create! If you try it out - send me a picture or share it on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter! I love to see!

Sweater refashion - DIY skirt

**hello to all stopping by from Studio 5 today**

Supplies:
sweater
wide elastic (2" or 3" in the color desired)
Sewing machine, scissors & pins

Find that sweater you like that isn't too boxy in shape (if it is boxy you may want to take in 1 side a bit to make it more fitted)

Determine the length you want your skirt to be and cut the body of the sweater to that length or cut the sweater at the underarm area.

Measure your waist and cut your elastic to that length. Overlap the ends of the elastic about 1/2" and sew a zigzag stitch over the ends. Now your waistband is ready to attach the sweater to it.

Slide the elastic over the top of the sweater - the cut end. Position the part of the waistband that is sewn in the middle of the back and pin to the sweater overlapping it about 1/2". Pin the front middle and the 2 sides. Then work between the 4 pins adding other pins to attach all of the sweater.

Sew to attach the sweater to the elastic. If your sweater is wider than the elastic loop pull the elastic as your sew it. This will naturally gather it a bit. Super easy and fast!

What I wore - DIY sweater skirt

You know I love to Refashion! I took on the challenge to refashion a sweater - well I created 5 different items to wear from that sweater challenge. One being this skirt which I admit, I am kind of smitten with.....
I love it because it's so comfortable - one of my favorite things about fashion is when style meets comfort.

I love the stripes too and the length. I can wear it as is or pop some colored tights or leggings underneath it for some added fun! Plus the color is "neutral". (tip #1) So many colors can be paired with gray! I first paired it with my pop of accessories (yellow) and then I paired the same outfit with the pop of color being the leggings and necklace. Same outfit - 2 different looks.

(what's up with my "smirk" in that photo? secretly laughing at myself...)

Want the tutorial on how I created the skirt?
Pop back tomorrow!

DIY Fix it Felix costume for boys

We LOOOOOVED the movie Wreck it Ralph. There are many fun characters and while I was sitting there I was studying Fix it Felix. I knew that I could easily DIY a dress up outfit for my little guy to play with.

If you don't already have a plastic toy hammer on hand then off to the second hand store you go! I was able to find one for under $1.00. A little gold spray paint ( I used KRYLON brand) and you've got his magic hammer ready to "FIX" lots of items around the house! The hammer is a MUST for the ensemble.
The must have piece for this outfit is the hat. We had a dark blue hat on hand so although it wasn't the exact color we went with it. The whole outfit was create on the FLY one afternoon. With some blue and yellow felt and cut out 2 F's in the blue felt and the piece for the background in the yellow (I just freehanded it). I attached the 2 F's to the yellow piece with some hot glue.

And because the hat we were using is one of my husbands - we just simply attached the Fix is Felix logo with some tape (and it's held great for weeks for weeks!)

To complete the outfit you'll need some jeans, a blue polo skirt, some gloves you have them or can find them (we couldn't) and them something to "holster" the hammer with when he's not fixing something. We had a small canvas pouch made for fitting over a belt for another one of my son's. We snatched one of sisters belts from her closet while she was at school (shh!) and threaded it through his belt loops and around his waist. PERFECT!

Super easy costume to create with things you probably already have around the house! Now he can be ready to say, "I can FIX IT!" We've had a lot of fun with this costume over the last couple of months!

What I wore - Novae Clothing

Talking more what I wore, fashion and refashion here this year! You can get in on it too through my new link up OR be a paparazzi and share your photos on instagram - #Ispyrefashion - check it out!

This weeks "what I wore" is all about scarves! I had the opportunity over the Christmas Holiday to participate in a photo shoot for Novae Clothing.
As they say on their site - Current fashions with Modest style! right up my alley! ps - she has a GREAT prices too! The inventory is always changing so there is always something new to shop for!

It was a cold shoot but fun! The burnout tees are from Novae Clothing too. I layered 2 on top of each other and Nickelle of Novae styled (tip #1) the sleeves on them to show the different colors and layers. GREAT idea! I modeled some long/wide infinity scarves and also some shorter skinny ones.

(tip #2) Think about layering 2 smaller infinity scarves together! And mix of the colors and patterns too! Could be really fun and stylish!

The hat and fingerless gloves are from Novae Clothing too!

Novae is currently having a clearance sale of up to 85% off! Hurry over there and snatch up some good deals and great fashion!

Another fun element of doing the photoshoot was it was at Brave Girls Ranch! (squeal!!!) See the Art Barn behind me? Super cool!!! (for me anyway)If you follow my Instagram feed you saw some of my behind the scenes photos too! You can also see my nose is getting a bit red in this photo from the cold weather - ha ha...
